For Tom Nuyens, storytelling did not begin as a creative ambition.
It began with survival.
At the age of eight he nearly died from meningitis.
That moment changed something fundamental.
When life confronts you that early with fragility, a different awareness emerges.
Presence replaces certainty.
Attention replaces distraction.
Years later, that awareness became the foundation of his work.
Because powerful storytelling is never manufactured.
It is felt.
This philosophy ultimately shaped the creation of Awake Productions — a studio dedicated to cinematic storytelling, strategic brand positioning and visual authority for organisations that want to shape perception rather than compete for attention.
Growing up extremely skinny, I was often the smallest person in the room.
Bullying could have created insecurity.
Instead, it triggered curiosity.
I became fascinated by human potential, discipline, and the transformation of the body.
Years of dedication eventually led to an unexpected milestone.
In 1995 I became Mr Belgium.
In 1996 I became the first Mister World.
An international modeling career followed, working across fashion and advertising campaigns worldwide.
Yet something important became clear.
External success does not automatically create internal fulfillment.
After years in the fashion and advertising industry,
I experienced something many high performers quietly encounter.
Burnout.
Depression.
Despite discipline and external achievements, something deeper felt out of alignment.
At the same time, my health began deteriorating.
I developed hypertension, allergies, and autoimmune skin and joint conditions — despite following strict fitness and nutrition regimes.
Instead of accepting decline, I began questioning the assumptions behind modern health and performance.
What if the body does not need more control…
but fewer blockages?
That question changed everything.
Through years of research and experimentation, I began focusing on restoring the body’s natural regulatory systems rather than constantly overriding them.
The principle became simple:
Health is not something we engineer.
It is something we allow when interference disappears.
By restoring biological balance, many of the symptoms gradually disappeared.
This philosophy later evolved into the work behind Alive Academy and the Get Natural Masterclass, where the focus is on removing physical and psychological blockages so the body and mind can return to natural flow.
The same principle also shapes my creative work.
When artificial noise disappears, clarity emerges.
The modern marketing landscape produces more content than ever before.
Yet genuine impact is becoming increasingly rare.
Artificial amplification, algorithmic tactics and automated visuals often create visibility — but rarely authority.
That realization led to the creation of Awake Productions.
We do not produce content.
We engineer brand perception.
